Discover the Island
By Ola Endress
If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of Vancouver city, escaping to the island is the perfect getaway! It is super easy to get to and in less than 2 hours via ferry you are on an island with so many different suburbs that offer so much discovery and adventure.
I highly recommend if you want to do the whole Island in one go to hire a car to get from one part of the island to the other as it can take a few hours to get to the other side.
You can do the island in parts, like I have done to save new discoveries at different times of the years or when I just want to see something new.
I have laid out the best part of the island that you should definitely do.
How to get to the island
Head to horseshoe bay (19 bus will take you straight her from the city) or if you are driving or in a different part of Vancouver you can catch a ferry from Nanaimo ferry pier.
This part of town is so much fun! the crowd is young and I wish I discovered this place way sooner than I did. I would be going back here countless times because Victoria is so quirky and has an old English style feel to it.
The landmarks are historical and so beautiful. Victoria is a must! every where you turn there is something special that it will offer you, this certainly is a vibey part of Vancouver Island.
There are so many restaurants to get your taste buds going.
Again - there is Earls and I just cant get over how good their happy hour menu is!
If you love beer then you will 100% love this place! So much beer on tap with a really good variety! and the food here is DELICIOUS! so much fun, the atmosphere is great and there are a few different bars within the restaurant to explore! Theres even a cigar lounge downstairs!
Local - Gastown
This place is AWESOME in summer!!! so much atmosphere with vibes. You can soak up the sun rays outside or cool off inside. Lots of beer options and decent food! You can even do half servings if you are like me and get full after a few bites. The food here is delicious!
